And you thought this countryside is boring until you meet the women of Longsheng Long Hair Village of the Yao ethnic minority. They only cut their hair once when they are 18 years old. Met a few of the elderlies and seems the new generation have left the village already for greener pastures outside the mountains. . .. …. . … Longsheng Long Hair Village, Guilin , China 💕 .. ………………………………………………………

There are about 60 women having natural black hair stretching up to 1,7 meters. So why do the Red Yao women grow and keep their hair so long? This is related to their tradition. Long hair means longevity and prosperity, so they would have their hair cut only twice during their whole life: 100 days after their birth and when they are 18 years old, on their coming-of-age ceremony. After they get married and give birth they would wear it up, like a bun. You might be wondering – how do these women keep their hair healthy and clean? Well, they do share a secret ancient recipe to keep their hair not only healthy but also shiny. Obviously, they will not give out the complete recipe, though when asked – they do mention that they wash their hair exclusively with rice water!!!

Aby si vlasy zachovali svoj lesk a hlavne farbu ich ženy máčajú v ryžovej vode, do ktorej pridajú zopár iných prírodných ingrediencii.

Throwback Guilin exploration trip Aug 2019. Interesting culture at the Huangluo village in Longsheng county, where they hold the Guiness World Record for „Longest Hair Village“. Until 1987, the women’s hair were deemed so sacred that it could only be seen by her family. A single girls‘ hair is off-limit by anyone else and is obscured by a blue scarf. The 1st man who sees her hair will be her husband, with the privilege to view granted only on the wedding day. If you see the girl’s hair unintentionally, you have to reside for 3 years as a son-in-law of the girl’s family. 💃🏼💃🏼😁💃🏼💃🏼 Do check out my Guilin travelogue at – ↙️ www.jensenchuaphotography.com.sg 🌏 #China #guilin #longsheng #longesthair #huangluoyaovillage #longji #girltribe #traveldestination #travelporn #travel #wanderlust #ig_china #photoshare #photooftheday #canon #5Dmk4
